Inspiring the Future Week 2025

Spark Young Dreams

We are thrilled to announce that from the week beginning January 27th 2025, Woodlands Primary School will be hosting our second ‘Inspiring the Future Week’! This event is designed to open our children’s eyes to the wide array of careers they could pursue and inspire them to dream big about their futures.

This year, we have three key aims for our pupils:

  • To realise there are many different job opportunities available to them when they grow up.

  • To learn about new jobs they haven’t heard about before.

  • To understand that the learning they do in school is important for their future careers.

To achieve these goals, we need your help! We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers who can share their career experiences and answer questions from our children. We are interested in speakers from all types of jobs—whatever field or industry you work in, your story matters!

For our younger children in particular, we’d love to feature careers that are practical, visual or familiar to them, as this helps them connect with what they already know. We'd love to hear from...

  • builders
  • doctors / paramedics / nurses
  • vets
  • firefighters
  • electricians
  • plumbers
  • police officers
  • artists / illustrators
  • musicians
  • actors
  • chefs
  • mechanics
  • hairdressers

Our Early Years team have also specifically asked for a children’s book illustrator, a children’s toys/games designer or puppeteer.

However, we emphasise that all jobs are valuable to our week and we encourage anyone with a passion for what they do to volunteer. The goal is to provide a diverse range of career examples to broaden our students’ understanding and aspirations.

The time commitment required is at least half an hour but it can be more if you have the time available. Each volunteer adult will be allocated one (or more) year groups to meet with, who will spend around 25-30 mins with the volunteer, listening to them talk about their job and asking questions. At present, which year group you’d speak to and / or which day(s) this would be is not decided.

The format for the sessions will be:

Guess my job: the children will ask questions to try to figure out what the volunteer’s job is.
Planned questions: the children will ask some generic questions, which will be shared with  volunteers beforehand.
Free questions: we also allow some questions from the pupils that occur to them at the time.

You may wish to plan a session that is different to this – and if you do, just let Mr Burns know. If you have any props or visuals that you would like to share with the children this could well support their engagement in the session.

Please show your interest in supporting this event by filling out this form or use the QR code. This form will be open until the end of term (20th December).
